2004-2005 Observing Dates for 9P/Tempel 1
The following, suggested observing dates are for the new moon phase. However, we encourage you to make observations of comet 9P/Tempel 1 whenever you have good sky conditions.
For observers in the northern hemisphere, the comet is observable from about October 2004 through early July 2005. This observing window may extend into August and September 2004 for observers at low northern latitudes. For observers in the southern hemisphere, the comet is observable from about January through December 2005. To generate an ephemeris for your observing site, visit the JPL Horizons site or to view an orbital diagram and generate an ephemeris, visit the JPL NEO site.
In the tables below,
- RA and DEC are for the UT date and time
- # Obs Hours are the number of hours that 9P/Tempel 1 is observable
(airmass < 3 and no twilight)
- Max Alt is the maximum altitude of the comet during the observable hours
- r is the heliocentric distance of the comet
- del is the geocentric distance of the comet
